WE WANT TO CREATE A CIRCULAR RECONSTRUCTION PROCESS IN UKRAINE AND BRING INNOVATIVE AND SAFE SPACES FOR PEOPLE
RESPONDING TO URGENT NEEDS
Ukraine’s public infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, while the construction industry faces rising costs and a shortage of skilled workers. At the same time, there is a growing shift toward sustainable and efficient reconstruction. With abundant forest resources and an urgent need for flexible solutions, we aim to introduce modular wooden building systems as a fast, high-quality response.
Our goal is to present a practical model for circular construction and demonstrate how international partnerships can support long-term, resilient infrastructure development.

WHAT WE DO?
Since the beginning of the war, a coalition of partners from Germany and Ukraine has been working together to bring practical solutions to the reconstruction challenges in Ukraine. Schütt and Urban Beta, in collaboration with Ukrainian architects, local businesses, NGOs, and community leaders, have focused on introducing circular construction methods using modular wooden systems. These structures are designed to respond quickly to urgent needs while promoting long-term sustainable development.
In 2024, the Circular Ukraine initiative received a grant from GIZ under the develoPPP program to implement a pilot project. This support enables us to take the next step—from concept to real-world application.
Starting in 2025, the team will begin active implementation, with the first modular prototype planned for installation in Ukraine in the summer. This marks the beginning of a larger effort to demonstrate how circular construction can support fast, flexible, and sustainable rebuilding.
WAYS TO COLLABORATE
Renovation Support
We find social facilities in need of renovation that need assistance.
Prototype Deployment
We transport a prototype to Ukraine to support the facilities with an extension.
Educational Workshops
We organize workshops for local architects, engineers, and manufacturers, as well as construction professionals in and around our construction system.
Timber Potential Analysis
We analyze the potential of timber construction in the region and facilitate network building with local industry partners.
